Your name. Your email. Your message. Share this post Twelve diapers per day are the average, but any parent can tell you that there are days that their newborn poops six times. So, when you decide how many reusable diapers you need for a newborn, the number is higher than the number of diapers you need for an older infant. Something to remember is that reusable covers are reusable after your baby soils the inserts.

Most parents rinse out the cover and let it dry before reusing it again. Unless your baby has a bad poop, reuse your covers two to three times each. Most one-size diapers start around 10lbs, so it might take a month or two before your baby is ready to use this size.

Some parents decide that they want to use reusable diapers full-time, meaning that they use diapers all day at home, at night, at their daycare, and when they leave the house. Not all parents decide on this option; it has to be the right one for your family. You might decide to add more diapers if you have a newborn or less if you start with an older infant. If your cloth diapering journey begins with an older child, you may not need a full stash of 24 cloth diapers.

You may choose to start your cloth diapering journey with just a few cloth diapers for each day. Depending on how frequently you change your little one through the day, some parents may choose to stick to approximately diapers.

Likewise, if you have more than one child in cloth diapers, we find that is a good-sized cloth diaper stash especially if you are using a one-size style that can fit both children. No matter what your budget is, we recommend cloth diapering. Even using just a few cloth diapers each day will save you money over disposables with each use.

As you save money, you can reinvest those savings into building a larger cloth diaper stash until you reach enough for full time cloth diapering, if that is your goal.
