How does the sookie stackhouse books end

Jul 09, PM. CH should have done more with Sam and his difficult re-emergence to life after Sookie brought him back from death. This could have been really creepy, with Sookie seeking help from supernatural sources. As for Eric, I could never buy into a marriage between him and Sookie; a torrid affair, with some other type of psychic connection would have been good. Then, he turns all immature and vindictive. What the heck was that?

The whole Claude thing I could have done without too. Oh well; it's over. Jul 10, PM. Heather wrote: "I hated the ending too.

I won't be buying it, will use the library if I really want to look at it. Jul 11, AM. The HBO series and the books are really two different things. If you're hoping for some insight as to how the show will end, I think it will be very different. Jul 16, PM. I like both the series AND the books which is crazy! That never happens!! Aug 31, PM. I just had to comment. I have loved the books since The show really didn't do the books justice imo.

I mean I liked the show but it was like after season one I was all wth???? I was soooooo ooobbber disappointed with the shows end. Books however, I wasn't disappointed or shocked about her ending up with Sam. It was a fit. I also read the book recently that ties up all the little stuff.

Not bad. I will always be a true blood tv fan but as a different entity. The books are so different. Dec 08, PM. I agree that Sookie had a better chance at a normal life with Sam since she didn't want to become a vampire. However, I feel like I wasted my time investing in 12 books of Sookie and Eric's relationship only to have her end up with Sam in the last 50 pages without any real leading up to it.

Sam was her best friend And then suddenly they're together? So disappointing. May wrote: "I agree that Sookie had a better chance at a normal life with Sam since she didn't want to become a vampire. However, I feel like I wasted my time investing in 12 books of Sookie and Eric's relatio Quinn was a red herring making you think she might go with him then Sookie has a hissy fit and it is over.

It was a big letdown and CH shouldn't be surprised that people get angry when you jerk their emotions around. It isn't the end of the world but when you invest so much time in reading a series the ending shouldn't be a slap dash mess so you can dust off your hands and say I'm done.

Very unsatisfying. I doubt I will ever read After Dead, who wants to read an alphabetical list of characters? A big raspberry to CH. Mar 30, AM. All I know was I absolutely hated the girl Sam ran off with, in the series. She was annoying in every scene she appeared in. I was so upset with both Sam and Sookie's endings.

As I reflected on the end of the series I thought it would have been so much better if she would have at least ended up with Sam. That is why I came to this message board to see what happened in the book. I just don't understand why. I could have done without the last season all together.

I won't read the books. I don't like authors that get you so invested in characters and then leave them in a bad place when the series is over. The readers are your audience. I understand it is the writers vision, but they should consider the feeling of the people who have been lining their pockets for the past however many years.

It is very frustrating and it seems the readers thoughts and feelings were not put into consideration. Katrina wrote: "I won't read the books. However I do disagree that an author "owes" readers anything. An author writes a story. We can either like it or not like it. But I would not want an author to have their vision influenced by public opinion.

They would still never satisfy everyone and it would probably affect their writing in a negative way. Apr 08, PM. Mary wrote: "Katrina wrote: "I won't read the books. I unde I had just finished the final episode and I was angry, lol. Jun 03, PM. I enjoyed the book wrap up. It tied everything off. Dead enemies, lost love, new love, money troubles I will agree that it was a bit rambling and somewhat rushed. I can imagine that it is difficult tying up every loose end created over the course of 11 books.

So, I will forgive the author for that because she attempted to give us some closure. Jun 05, AM. I agree with you Mary, to a point. No an author doesn't owe the readers per se but if you spend time crafting a series that many come to love, don't you at least owe the fans a decent ending?

I just feel that her heart wasn't in it after she sold the rights to HBO and was just making a half hearted attempt to finish the series. The last book was a mess pure and simple.

I haven't even looked at her new one, not again. Squilla new. Sep 21, PM. I'm just wondering why Sookie couldn't have used the cluviel dor to make Eric human. Problem solved. Eric wasn't asked if he wanted to be turned to my memory so then they could have had a happy life, kids blah blah Sookie denies her love for Eric to herself for so long, but in the book, they had that connection, the spark, the "love makes you do the wacky" persona Sookie settled for Sam.

Eric settled for Queenie. There really wasn't a happily ever after in my opinion. But, that's just my opinion, I am not the writer, and despite my love of the characters, they were not MY characters. Aug 17, AM. Oct 23, AM. Houston's independent source of local news and culture. Jef Rouner June 11, AM. If I was a betting man, I would say that this is likely to be the last season of the show.

The storyline has gotten a little ridiculous, and I'd be lying if I didn't admit that my main motivation to continue coverage this year was to see Rutina Wesley and Kristin Bauer van Straten cement their new relationship with copious amounts of copulation.

For now, though, it's time to talk about the books. Thirteen novels is a whole lot of one protagonist. In terms of word count, Sookie is up there with the likes of Sherlock Holmes. Hell, even the modern vampire queen Anne Rice only made it to 12 books in the Vampire Chronicles , and she didn't even stay focused on the same character in all of them.

Yet Sookie's ending, to me, perfectly wrapped up her entire story arc wonderfully. We're far enough down in this article now that I feel safe stating it baldly. Sookie winds up with Sam Merlotte, owns part of the bar that has been her home base for so long, and learns to accept herself and her life in Bon Temps free from constant judgment.

She winds up whole and alive, and that's how it always should have been. Full text. Join the Houston Press community and help support independent local journalism in Houston.

An early copy was leaked online by a fan in Germany last week, prompting an outpouring of bile on Amazon , Goodreads and Harris's Facebook page , with thousands of comments posted by fans furious about the choice Sookie made. In fact, I cancelled my order," wrote another. Harris told the Wall Street Journal that she had also received emails saying "if Sookie doesn't end up with Eric, I'm going to kill myself", as well as death threats.

It's disappointing to have people impugn my character in such a personal way, but I hope on the whole that many people are entertained by the book and find it a satisfying end to Sookie's adventures," Harris wrote on Facebook , prompting nearly 2, more comments, ranging from "We are disappointed and feel cheated and I personally regret I have contributed my bit to make you more rich and famous" to "Hated Dead Ever After and returned it for a complete refund".

Harris's UK editor, Gillian Redfearn at Gollancz, said she was "quite saddened" by the reaction, but put it down to "a very small minority" of readers. She was prepared for it, she knew people would be unhappy. On Amazon, Dead Ever After has received one-star reviews, compared with five-star reviews. One reader described the "extreme disappointment" they felt with the novel by pointing to a blog post claiming that "if Charlaine Harris had written the Harry Potter series, the end of Deathly Hallows would have Harry sleeping in the cupboard under the stairs with the spiders and no magic.
